Coloured Gradation Series

The primary objective of the Coloured Gradation Series is to help children:
 Develop an understanding of size gradation and how objects change in size incrementally.
 Explore and differentiate between geometric shapes (circles, triangles, squares) and their
increasing dimensions.
 Strengthen their ability to recognize and categorize colours as they work with the three
colour sets.
 Foster visual discrimination and fine motor skills as they handle and manipulate the pieces.
Additionally, this material introduces children to concepts of order and classification as they work
with different attributes of size, shape, and colour.

1. Size Gradation: The child will work with one shape at a time (circles, triangles, or squares)
and arrange the pieces in ascending order of size, from the smallest (10 mm) to the largest
(100 mm). This exercise helps the child understand the concept of gradation—gradual
increases in size—and enhances their ability to compare and categorize objects.
2. Shape Recognition: The child can also practice identifying the three shapes (circle, triangle,
square) and comparing them, learning about their unique properties. This activity helps
with shape recognition and classification, enhancing geometric knowledge.
3. Colour Differentiation: With three colours in the set (red, blue, and yellow), the child can
explore colour discrimination and learn to sort or group the pieces based on colour. This can
also be used as an introduction to colour theory and the concept of primary colours (red,
blue, yellow).

4. Visual and Tactile Exploration: The material encourages children to use both their visual
and tactile senses to explore size and shape. The precise cutting of the plastic pieces ensures
that the child can feel the consistency in size gradation as they manipulate the pieces.
5. Organizing and Ordering: As the child arranges the pieces by size, shape, and colour, they
practice organizing and ordering skills. This can be extended to more complex activities,
such as creating patterns or designing simple compositions with the shapes.
